Explore a curated collection of authentic experiences in and around Reggio Emilia as part of The Paradigm Project Reggio Emilia Study Tour 2026.

These optional evening experiences are an invitation to extend the learning beyond our formal Study Tour program and immerse more deeply in the culture and community of Reggio Emilia. Through food, traditions, local craftsmanship, and conversation, they offer opportunities to build relationships, reflect together, and experience joyful moments in community. In the spirit of Loris Malaguzzi’s reminder, ‘nothing without joy,’ we hope these evenings add another meaningful layer to our time together.

Pick one experience

  • On Wednesday, October 14, participants are invited to choose from four optional evening experiences designed to introduce you to the people, flavors, traditions, and stories of Reggio Emilia.
  • Each experience includes dinner and requires separate registration and an additional participant-paid fee.
  • Please select and register for one experience per participant. Payment is collected during registration, and a participant’s spot is secured once the purchase is completed.

Registration and capacity

  • Discover Reggio Emilia, The Art of Parmigiano, and Balsamic Traditions each require a minimum of 10 participants to operate and can accommodate a maximum of 20 participants.
  • The Artisan Gelato-Making Experience and Dinner requires exactly 10 participants to operate.
  • Registration is available on a first come, first served basis.
  • If an experience does not reach the required minimum, we will contact you to discuss the available alternatives. If your selected experience cannot operate and you do not choose another option, you will receive a full refund.

Meeting information

  • Participants registered for The Art of Parmigiano or Balsamic Traditions must be ready and waiting at the Malaguzzi Center at 5:00 PM.
  • Additional timing and meeting instructions will be shared before the program.

WAITLISTS

  • If Discover Reggio Emilia or the Artisan Gelato-Making Experience reaches capacity, you may join the waitlist for that experience. If there is enough additional interest and availability, we will explore opening another group.
  • Joining a waitlist does not guarantee that another group will operate.

Discover Reggio Emilia on a guided walking tour through its historic center, including a visit to the theater. The experience continues with an informal apericena featuring local food and drinks, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

The theater visit is subject to final confirmation.

During this relaxed, hands-on experience, participants learn the ingredients and the stages of production at Spatolata, then make their own gelato with the gelatieri.

Spatolata combines high-quality artisanal gelato made with natural ingredients and carefully selected raw materials with an inspiring project that promotes the professional inclusion of people with disabilities.

Travel together to a local Parmigiano Reggiano producer for a tour and tasting, then dinner at a local trattoria. One of the two protected traditions of the evening, and the only one that takes you out of the city.

Time with Lorenzo in the intimate world of traditional balsamic vinegar - the acetaia, the barrels, the tasting - and then dinner together. The second of the evening's two protected traditions.

What if the minimum isn't reached?

Discover Reggio Emilia, The Art of Parmigiano, and Balsamic Traditions each require a minimum of 10 participants; the gelato experience requires exactly 10. If an experience doesn't reach the required minimum, we will contact you to discuss the available alternatives. If your selected experience cannot operate and you do not choose another option, you will receive a full refund.

What if my first choice is full?

Join the waitlist. With enough interest and availability we'll explore another group, though joining does not guarantee one operates.
